As a Classroom Administrator you may set up the entire school with a uniform grading policy or manage specific courses/departments. It is important to set up Marking Periods and Course Categories at the beginning of the term so staff will follow the same policy throughout each term.
Where to Start
To begin, click on the Settings tab and choose Course Categories.
Set Average Calculation Routine
Select the Course you wish to edit under the Select a Course drop-down menu. As an administrator you will see a list of all the Courses in the school.
Choose your Average Calculation Routine from the drop down menu. Classroom can create your gradebook averages with two methods: Points or Averages.
The notable difference between these two methods is the weighting of point values:
- The Points method has Test 1 (50 pts) weighted half as much of Test 2 (100 pts).
- The Average method calculates both Test 1 (50 pts) and Test 2 (100 pts) equivalent in weight.
Set Grading Policy
Set your Grading Policy by adding Categories using the Category text boxes. Categories can be weighted by checking the Use Weighted Categories checkbox and adding percentages to the Percentage text boxes.
You also have the option to drop the lowest score in a category using the Drop Lowest Score checkbox.
If you'd like to prevent further changes to your categories, click the Lock Categories checkbox. In order to change categories at a later date, you'd need to un-check this box, save your settings, and then make the needed edits.
Add Marking Periods
Add marking periods for your school using the + Add Marking Period button. If you've added too many marking periods, use the - Remove Marking Period button.
If you would like to create a cumulative average within Marking Periods click the check boxes provided. To create a term or yearly average create an additional Marking Period and set it to be cumulative of all prior Marking Periods.
Save to Courses
Save your settings by clicking the Save To... button.
Choose the courses that your grading policy should apply to, and then choose Apply Changes.
