The Remote Data Extractor has been successfully modified to accommodate the 2-Factor Verification (2FA) process that the NYC DOE has implemented for accessing the Remote Workspace where STARS Admin resides.
Where to Start
DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE NEW EXTRACTOR
Choose Data Status from the Administration Tab
Click on the blue bar to download the DE 3.9 installation file and install it on your machine. If you cannot begin the download by clicking on the link, right-click on the link and choose "Save link as..." or “Open in new tab” to download it to your computer.
Before you can run the remote Data Extractor, you have to set up the 2FA process outside the DE.
SET UP 2-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION (2FA)
Open Internet Explorer and go to the DOE Workspace and sign in.
When you sign in, you will be asked to choose how you want the verification code to be sent to you. Please use the “Email” option. (NEW)
Once you click the “Send Code” button, you will be sent a code to your DOE email account. Access your email account, locate the email with the code and copy it and paste it here and then click the “Verify” button. This code is usually valid for about five minutes. (NEW)
You will be at your Workspace page. Minimize this window and open the Data Extractor now in a new window.
Proceed with the following steps. Click here to see how to sync a prior term within this school year.
Start the Remote Data Extractor and sign in.
You will see the following message. Please select “NO” (NEW)
You will now see the following new message. Please answer YES. (NEW)
You will now be brought to the Sync Wizard. Please select “Auto Sync”
Next, you will sign into your DOE email account.
After this, you will see the ATS login screen and you will BYPASS ATS.
THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE NEW
You will not be prompted to enter your STARS (HSST) credentials. Instead the DE will begin the 2FA Verification process in the background by requesting an OTP code via email and retrieving the code and subsequently logging into STARS Admin on its own. Once it has successfully completed these steps, it will start getting the files from STARS and uploading them to Classroom.
When using the remote data extractor, if you need to import data from a different term from the current school year, take the following steps before you run the extractor.
Choose Integrations from the Administration tab:
Choose Data Extractor from the menu
Choose the applicable term from the dropdown.
Once this is set, run the remote extractor as described above.
