**Assignments Impact Bar**shows the impact (percentage) of the assignment grade in calculating the student's

**FINAL**overall average for the course.

**IMPORTANT**the impact bar is based on the FINAL marking period Course Categories including the rule for cumulative or non-cumulative averaging. If an assignment is given in non-cumulative marking period 2, but FINAL marking period 4 is cumulative, the impact bar will reflect the cumulative impact.

## Where to Start

To access the impact bar go to **Assignments,** then **Show Assignments.**

Once at the Show Assignments page, you should notice an impact bar next to every assignment you create.

**How the Impact Bar Works**

Let’s begin with a simple example –one assignment in each category for the only defined marking period. Our class has 3 categories, Homework 20%, Classwork, worth 20% and Exams, worth 60%, and 4 marking periods. For this example, each category has 1 assignment for this marking period. The impact bars shown below for this example exactly reflect the course category percentage. Since Homework is worth 20% of the student’s overage grade, and there is only 1 Homework, that single homework impacts 20% of the student’s grade.

The formula for the impact bar depends on your chosen averaging method. The formulas are shown above.

If you hover over the percentage of the assignment impact you will see how the system if calculating the number.
